About Thomas Butler

In what year did you begin working in the real estate industry as a REALTOR®?

Why do you like working in the real estate industry?
I enjoy the variety. Every day is something different. There is always something new to learn or a new challenge to overcome.

In what year did you become affiliated with Semonin Realtors®?

Why do you choose to affiliate your business with Semonin?
I chose to affiliate with Semonin because of the brand recognition. I remember being little and seeing those yellow signs in the neighborhood. I had a feeling that the best houses for sale had a Semonin sign. Now that I'm older, I still agree with that assessment.

What sets you apart from other REALTORS®? What are your greatest strengths as a real estate agent?
I want to answer when the phone rings or when a text comes in. I want to answer any questions someone may have. I want to go show a house. I want to gather some information. I want to help the agent on the other side.

What do you do to stay up-to-date/knowledgeable about the real estate industry?
I read any article I can find that pertains to real estate. I also take classes through GLAR and the Kentucky Realtor Institute above and beyond the required CE classes.

What did you do before you began working in real estate? Has anything you learned on that/those jobs helped you with your real estate business? If so, what/how?
Before becoming a Realtor, I worked in the Social Work Field. I did housing for people with severe mental illness. I learned how to interact with difficult people. I learned compassion and empathy for everyone.

Tell us about your immediate family. Who are they? Do you enjoy spending time together? If so, what do you do together?
My brother and sister have both moved out of state. I still get to see them a couple of times a year - just not enough. My parents both live in the area so we get together for lunch or dinner several times a month.

What is your favorite book / type of book? Why?
I love Longform journalism about any subject. When a writer can go deep into a subject or person and write 50,000 words is very impressive, there is always something to interest me. Even if I have no desire to thin about the general subject.

What is your favorite movie / type of movie? Why?
I like a twisty caper movie. It's fun to keep guessing what is going to happen or how they will pull something off.

What is your favorite song / type of music? Why?
I love Podcasts. They have overtaken any music in the car. I like comedy podcasts and have been listening to Econtalk for at least 10 years.

What are two or three items on your Bucket List? Why do you want to do them?
I want to learn how to speak Spanish. I've tried self study and some immersion classes in Mexico. One day, everything will click!
I want to visit the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Some of the best comedians in history have performed there and still do.

What is your favorite word / a word you like? Why?
My favorite word is one that I haven't heard before. I love hearing a new one and having to look it up.

Do you have a motto/words to live by? If yes, what?
"90% Perfect but 100% on time." It's great to have a perfect offer or all the information in the world gathered. But if a deadline has passed or someone else has already seized the opportunity, it doesn't matter. I strive to be on time for everything.

Do you have a favorite quote? If yes, what is it?
"Go big or go home." I really like that quote. There is no point in half trying anything. In real estate, try hard to get the house, deal completed, or a repair done. Or stay home and let someone else do it.

What have we failed to ask you that you would like to share with people who view the About Me section of your website? Here's your chance to share something distinctive about yourself!
I am a lifelong resident of Kentuckiana. I did spend one year in Denver but moved back. They can keep the mountains - I prefer right here!
